English had been a part of the curriculum since the inception of this college. The Department of English in SVR NSS College came into existence along with the establishment of the college in 1965 as a junior college with various Pre-degree batches. It became a full-fledged one in 1998 when an Undergraduate programme in English was sanctioned to the college by Mahatma Gandhi University in the stream of Model II Vocational Module as a part of the government policy of vocationalizing Degree Programmes. This was meant to be a foundational programme for those students who aspire for teaching along with their degree in English Language and Literature. The Department became a Postgraduate one in 2014 offering the Masters programme in English language and Literature. The Department is equipped with a language laboratory that offers training in language skills to the students of all undergraduate courses. Our former students, employed in various prominent fields stands as a testimony to the efforts of the department in developing creative and socially sensitive citizens
